I love the Springtime when all the wildflowers are in bloom! One of my favorite places to visit for California wildflowers in the San Francisco East Bay is Mt Diablo State Park in Walnut Creek. Ken and I typically visit several times every year in April-May just to see the fields of bright orange poppies. This year, we decided to visit a bit earlier than usual, in March, to explore the early Spring scenery and wildflowers, and we were not disappointed! The park was lush with fresh greenery and filled with yellow mustard blooms and scattered with wildflowers! If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially if you live in the East Bay, you should put Mt Diablo State Park on your list of places to visit in the early Spring for beautiful outdoor scenery and wildflowers!

Early Spring Wildflowers at Mt Diablo State Park
It was a beautiful Spring day at the park when we visited, with lush green fields, colorful wildflowers, and trees starting to leaf. We saw beautiful fields of wild yellow mustard interspersed with purple lupines, and numerous small bunches of bright orange California poppies. While the poppies were not as numerous as in April-May, it was still a beautiful, cheerful and inspirational sight. Check out my post on the Mt Diablo poppy fields for pictures of those poppies in April!
Being avid photographers, we brought our cameras and were happy to capture some scenes from the beautiful Spring day. All photos were captured with a Nikon D750 with my favorite Nikon 50mm lens.
These pictures were taken along North Gate Road (enter from the North Gate entrance).

Hey girl, I LOVE THIS!!!!
Thank you for sharing it.
Would you mind to share what part of the park the cover photos was taken? (the one with the rocks and flowers).
Thank you so much.

Hi Stephane – all of these photos were taken next to North Gate Road, between the North Gate entrance and the Junction Ranger Station. If you go now, you’ll probably see poppies instead of yellow mustard flowers! See my post on poppy fields at Mt Diablo State Park π
